Now with its own name, the Minecraft Trails & Tales update is on its way, bringing with it new and exciting features, biomes, blocks, and more. So, here’s everything coming to the Minecraft Trails & Tales update and how you can try it out before it releases.

Officially announced in the 2022 Minecraft Live, the Trails & Tales update was posed as a rolling announcement, with the name only being released on March 2, 2023. However, by now, we have plenty of information regarding this exciting update.

Such information comes in the form of new mobs, blocks, and more coming to this highly anticipated update, and naturally, many fans are eagerly awaiting the next announcement to see what’s in store for this popular open-world game.

How to play the Minecraft Trails & Tales Java Snapshot and Bedrock Beta

If you own either the Java or the Bedrock edition of Minecraft, then you can try the new update before it’s officially released. It will change regularly but is well worth a look if you’re interested in the upcoming version of Minecraft. How to play the 1.20 update is described below.

How to play Minecraft Trails & Tales Java Snapshot

Playing the Java Snapshot of Minecraft Trails & Tales is relatively long-winded but will allow you to get a first look at the new update. To play the Trails & Tales update on Minecraft Java edition, follow these steps:

1. Load up the Minecraft Launcher.
2. Click on Installations.
3. Tick Snapshots.
4. Select ‘New Installation’.
5. Under the Version bar, click Latest Release.
6. Select the Latest snapshot you created and press play.
7. Create a new world.
8. Select Data Packs.
9. Move the available packs over to Selected.
10. Finalize the world and head into the game.

How to play Minecraft Trails & Tales Bedrock Beta

You can play the Minecraft Trails & Tales Bedrock Beta on PC, Xbox, or Android. To download it and get access, you’ll need to follow these steps.

1. Install and launch Minecraft Preview.
2. Click Play Preview.
3. Create a new world.
4. Click on Experiments under the world setting before finalizing the new world.
5. Toggle Next Major Update on.
6. Press create and enjoy.

Although there has been less announced in this update compared to previous Minecraft versions, there are still plenty of exciting additions players have to look forward to. Here are all the new features coming to the Minecraft 1.20 update:

New Mobs: Sniffer and Camel

As it usually goes with most Minecraft Live events, players were able to vote on what mob they wanted to join Minecraft. For 2022, players voted for the Sniffer. This adorable mob farms unique seeds and will introduce brand new flowers and potentially crops for Minecraft.

The next mob coming to Minecraft 1.20 is the Camel. The Camel is a new rideable mob that two players can sit on at one time. It can dash over ravines, breed, and save you from mobs when on its back.

New Blocks: Bamboo, Signs, and Bookshelves

Currently, there are three new block additions coming to Minecraft. Those are new hanging signs, a Bamboo wood set, and some working bookshelves.

The hanging signs can be displayed in a variety of locations from the side of buildings to the ceiling above you. They’re very similar to normal signs, except they’re more versatile and look better when placed in multiple locations.

The Bamboo wood set includes all normal wood creations as well as a unique mosaic pattern and a raft rather than a boat.

Lastly, you will soon be able to create bookshelves that let you place your books inside. These include enchanted books so you never have to worry about a packed inventory again. They also work with Redstone meaning those rooms hidden by bookshelves can now be a reality.

New Minecraft Armor Trims

Announced on January 24, 2023, Armor Trims will soon be joining the 1.20 version of Minecraft and is now playable through Minecraft Snapshot.

Armor Trims are a way to show off your own flair with personalized Armor designs. Now, you can dye your sets, and make them look exactly how you want using Smithing Templates.

Archeology

On February 10, 2023, Mojang announced that a new set of features will be arriving in the 1.20 Minecraft update. The new feature, known as archeology, will enable players to locate dig sites and use their new brush tool to uncover unique loot.

The loot includes pottery shards, new tools, bones, and some Sniffer eggs, perfectly complementing the upcoming sniffer mob.

New Cherry Blossom Biome

The most recent feature coming to the 1.20 Minecraft update is a brand new biome, filled with beautiful Cherry Blossom trees, saplings, and blocks. Soon, players will be able to enjoy building a cherry wood house in this new biome along with meeting the new mobs, and perhaps combining their home design with the new bamboo blocks.

Does Minecraft Trails & Tales have a release date yet?

Currently, the Trails & Tales Minecraft update does not have a release date. It was revealed on October 15, 2022, but no release date or window was announced during the event.

Despite this, we predict it will at the very least arrive in Minecraft during 2023 and will likely be in the first half of the year unless any development issues arrive.
