Is there a Deadpool 3 release date?

Deadpool 3 will be released on May 3, 2024. However, with recent Hollywood strikes, this date could be subject to change.

It was originally planned for September 6, and then November 8, but Marvel has recently shaken up a lot of release dates. This also means Deadpool 3 will likely be one of the first movies in Phase Six of the MCU.

However, with the recent WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, filming has now stopped, as reported by Variety. This means that the expected release date could be changed yet again. We will update this section once more information comes out.

Marvel has responded to the strikes, stating, “We can all hope that a new agreement will be finalized soon so we can resume the great work we have in process.”

Disney also recently removed Deadpool 3 from its upcoming theatrical slate, which lists its releases between September 2023 and June 2024. We’ll update this space once we have more information.

Deadpool 3 trailer: Is there a trailer for the movie?

Ryan Reynolds revealed an now-changed release date in a video shared to Twitter, which also confirmed the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. You can watch it below:

However, there’s no official trailer or other teaser footage at the time of writing.

But there are some first-look images of Ryan Reynolds (and possibly some stunt performers) on set, curtesy of the Daily Mirror:

Deadpool 3 cast: Who’s in it?

Deadpool 3 could see the return of the remaining X-Force characters or bring in a brand new supporting cast

It wouldn’t be a Deadpool film without the titular anti-hero himself. As well as reprising his role as Deadpool for the third film, Ryan Reynolds is also actively working on the script.

In addition to Reynolds, Morena Baccarin is confirmed to be returning from the first two Deadpool movies as Wade Wilson’s wife Vanessa.

But Vanessa isn’t the only returning character from the first two movies, as both Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams have been confirmed to return as Dopinder and Blind Al from the first two Deadpool movies. Stefan Kapicic will also be returning as Colossus, as will Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, according to Deadline.

The outlet separately confirmed that another fan-favorite is returning from Deadpool 2. Rob Delaney is confirmed to be returning as X-Force member Peter.

But here’s the big news: Hugh Jackman is officially returning as Wolverine. By the time the film hits cinemas, it’ll have been seven years since Logan, which many assumed would be his final appearance.

Surprisingly, Zazie Beetz will not be returning as Domino, despite the actor stating that they were open to reappearing. Earlier that year, she told ScreenRant, “I am crossing my fingers, hoping that Domino will be a part of this and if not, that’s also all good. But it’s just such a great crew, such a great team. I just love Deadpool. I love Domino so much. If it’s not this, maybe I’ll do my own Domino origins or something like that.”

Other potential characters to return are Cable (Josh Brolin), as well as any of the surviving X-Force members. However, the movie could bring in some new characters – namely some X-Men folks – now that the universes have the potential to be properly connected.

Furthermore, Marvel insider Daniel Richtman has reported that Mobius (Owen Wilson) will have a “big role” in Deadpool 3, which would make sense as this movie is likely about traveling across the multiverse. However, it could also be a big signal for Cable’s appearance, as he has long been an enemy of the TVA.

One notable addition to the ensemble is The Crown’s Emma Corrin, who has just been cast in an undisclosed role. There are rumors about who she will play, though nothing has been confirmed yet.

On March 28, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Succession actor Matthew Macfadyen has also joined the cast of Deadpool 3. It is currently unknown what role he might be playing.

One role that is for certain is Elektra, who will be played once again by Jennifer Garner.

In terms of rumored performances, Ben Affleck may apparently be reprising his past role as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil. There’s also been reports that Channing Tatum could cameo as the X-Men member Gambit, according to an inside scooper.

Most recently, rumors about Daniel Radcliffe playing an “unknown “secret role” have also been circling.

Deadpool 3 plot: What will the film be about?

According to Reynolds, the sequel could see the character and plot take a completely new direction. The actor has teased that the threequel is “looking to go in a completely different direction”, adding “often they reboot or change a character maybe like four movies too late.”

With time-travel being a central part of Deadpool 2, the third film could lean into this element even more and could even use it as a way to effortlessly introduce the character to the greater MCU.

Judging by the character cameos from X-Men, and the scenes on set (look below) it’s likely that Deadpool will focus on the characters’ jump from 20th Century Fox to the MCU in a meta way. There’ll also likely be a fight between Deadpool and Wolverine at some point.

And despite Deadpool now forming under the Disney Umbrella, it has been stated multiple times by a variety of Marvel people that Deadpool 3 will retain its R rating and won’t need to dial anything back.

Levy went on the say the film is “raw,” audacious,” and unlike anything fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen before.

As stated by Shawn Levy to Deadline, “Our movie is raw, audacious, very much R-rated. We went to great lengths to not shoot it on soundstages with digital environments. The internet has proven that by revealing pictures of our shoot,” Levy added. “But no, we wanted something that felt grounded and real. You put Hugh Jackman in his most iconic character alongside Ryan Reynolds in his most iconic character, I would say it’s more a descendant of Midnight Run, 48 Hours, and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles than it is a descendant of Airplane.”

Many fans believe the movie will be a loose adaptation of the ‘Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe’ storyline, with Owen Wilson’s Mobius and the TVA pursuing the antihero through different timelines as he causes all sorts of bloody chaos.
